Le Phare Bleu is proud to be the home of the Petite Calivigny Yacht Club, which is a fun club that organises a variety of social and watersport events. Most Wednesday evenings some members meet to practise on the Hobie Cats. As guests of Le Phare Bleu you are welcome to join them and perhaps ask to go out on a Hobie Cat with them. Check out their website for further information: www.pcycgrenada.com.”
Our pool is located directly off our beach and next to our restaurant. The Le Phare Bleu Pool is for the use of all our guests: restaurant, cottages and marina.
Our beach is called a Seagrass Meadow.
Seagrass meadows are often removed by hotels and resorts who believe their guests would rather have white sand than a green, undersea meadow. Unfortunately, completely removing the seagrass can have devastating effects on neighbouring coral reefs, local fisheries, and even the shape of the seabed.
Seagrasses are the only marine plants that live entirely underwater, and here in Grenada, we have two species, Turtle Grass and Manatee Grass. Seagrass meadows, like the ones located just off the beach here at LPB, are some of the most productive ecosystems on the planet, and facilitate some really important ecosystem services.
Firstly, seagrass roots weave together under the seabed, stabilizing the sediment they grow in. This prevents those sediments from washing away, and potentially smothering offshore coral reefs. In fact, an increase in suspended sedimentation as little as one percent can negatively affect coral reefs up to 70 kilometers away!
Seagrass meadows are often referred to as nursery habitats, as the dense layer of leaves provides safe shelter for juvenile fish and invertebrates. Hence the name, turtle grass also provide a valuable source of food for green turtles, which are a common sight here in Le Phare Bleu bay.
Seagrasses photosynthesize, just like terrestrial plants, and have been nicknamed ‘the lungs of the sea’, because they can absorb so much carbon, and generate enormous amounts of oxygen. When snorkeling or diving, you can actually see this oxygen released as tiny bubbles that float to the surface. Although they only make up 0.1 percent of the ocean floor, seagrass meadows hold about 15% of the carbon stored in the ocean.

Dieter is an accomplished musician and shares his passion for live music by working and performing with local artists. We are passionate about live performances and offer a selection of events that range from relaxing music for your listening pleasure to full party bands. Join us at The Lightship Bar, and keep up to date by following us on social media.
Throughout the year we offer an unusual performance on the water. We call them “Dinghy Concerts”, as you need a boat to get to the floating performance. For those who do not own a boat we offer a water taxi to the floating barge, where you will also find a bar offering beer, Westerhall Rum, wine and soft drinks. The performances are free and all that we ask is that you buy your drinks from the bar. The performance usually begins around 3PM and last about an hour. Then join us at Island Fever Tropical Tavern after the concert for more drinks and dinner!
